Design around a real task
Help visitors identify the subject, understand the relevant information and find their next page. Keep key content visible on smaller screens and make navigation work with a keyboard.
- Use descriptive headings and links.
- Keep contrast strong and text comfortable to read.
- Make language switching predictable.
- Show unavailable features honestly rather than displaying a non-working form.
Treat a rebuild as a migration
Inventory valuable URLs, content and permitted assets before replacing a site. Preserve useful paths or redirect each one to an appropriate destination. Keep the domain, email and customer records separate from presentation changes.
- Verify the exact release before connecting the public domain.
- Check old service links, the error page and sitemap.
- Keep a tested healthy release available for rollback.
- Do not move customer submissions without an approved data plan.
Measure the experience that exists
A website being online is different from a working enquiry system. If collection is enabled later, confirm validation, durable storage, authorized operator access and delivery before showing a success message.
